Yeasayer/Of Montreal collaborator Ahmad Gallab struck out on his own this week via the release of his Sinkane project's debut disc Mars. Now, the artist is highlighting funk-flecked album opener "Runnin'" with a tense, politically motivated video.
The clip features red-hued shots of revolutionaries protesting in the streets in favour of peace and freedom, only to have a group of military men in fatigues hunt them down. While some escape in a car to reflect on the goings-down, others aren't so lucky, as the authorities capture, beat and even shoot others involved in the demonstration. Sinkane's fiery falsetto and a steady wah-wah guitar rhythm imported from the early '70s serve to make the gritty clip even tenser.
