Single Mothers Deliver Surprise 'Meltdown' EP

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 26, 2016

Judging by the title of their 2014 LP, Single Mothers are full of Negative Qualities. The snarly Ontarian punk outfit aren't all bad, though, having just unveiled a new five-song EP for the fans. Their Meltdown is out now.

So far, the collection is only being offered up through Bandcamp. The London, ON foursome recorded the tracks at Hamilton's Tape facility with Adam Bentley and Jordan Mitchell.

The opening title track spouts off about religion and astrology for a few seconds before launching into some awesomely knuckle-dragging hardcore rhythms. While the vibe is pretty similar for the next pair of tunes, "Everybody Cool" has a more melodic, vintage alt-rock feel to it. Chromatic scale-abusing closer "Slow Reader" suggests Single Mothers might have a thing for the second side of Black Flag's My War.

You can stream the set below, but let it be known that there's definitely more Single Mothers action on the way. Earlier in the summer, the group posted a picture of themselves working in the studio, alongside Alexisonfire's Wade MacNeil. It came with the caption: "LP 2 is a wrap."
