Silver Jews leader David Berman is coming back into our lives as Purple Mountains, and today he's given us another taste of the new project's upcoming album. Right now, you can check out the newly shared song "Darkness and Cold."

The track has arrived via a video, and Drag City has this to say about "Darkness and Cold":

The second single conjures [the prelude to] a cathartic night on the town, bathed in magic glow: this is how the light of David Berman's life leaves him behind, enmeshed in desolation and regret. Purple Mountains approach existential perfection with a somehow joyful lament in "Darkness and Cold" as plaintive harp and backing vox cast long shadows over a dancey rhythm n roots shuffle.

See that all come to life by watching the "Darkness and Cold" video below.

The song follows the previously shared "All My Happiness Is Gone" from Purple Mountains' self-titled album, which will arrive on July 12 via Drag City. In addition to the record release, Berman is taking the project on a North American tour, and you can see all the dates of that here.

Purple Mountains marks Berman's first new album since Silver Jews' 2009 LP Lookout Mountain Lookout Sea.
