Silver Dapple

"Slip Stitch"

BY Josiah HughesPublished May 11, 2011

Montreal quartet Silver Dapple embody a resurgence of the pop aesthetic in Canada's outsider indie scene. Allowing hints of shoegaze fuzz and reverb to backdrop their sound, the group play unabashedly catchy downer pop. A perfect example is the song "Slip Stitch," from their forthcoming debut LP.

The track opens with a dissonant guitar riff before the band build to a warm blanket of fuzzing guitars and welcome melodies. Vocalist Emily Deimert's sweetly unassuming vocals add just a touch of melancholy to the mix, making it an ideal modern interpretation of '90s guitar pop.
