Sigur Rós to Appear on 'The Simpsons'

Soon, Icelandic dreamweavers Sigur Rós will follow in the footsteps of the White Stripes, Michael Jackson and, uh, 'N Sync, by appearing on an episode of The Simpsons.

According to a report from MBL [via Consequence of Sound], the band will appear on the May 19 episode of the iconic cartoon.

Not only will the members of Sigur Rós be turned into animated characters for the show, they have reportedly created some original music just for the occasion. There's no word as to exactly what they've got in store, but we'd love to hear a post-rock version of The Simpsons theme song.

The episode is titled "The Saga of Carl Carlson," and it concerns the Icelandic-born Carl (of Lenny and Carl) heading to his home country. This will be one half of the two-part finale of Season 24; this season has also included appearances from the likes of Tom Waits, the Decemberists, Justin Bieber, Zooey Deschanel, and Wild Flag/Sleater-Kinney's Carrie Brownstein.

Sigur Rós will release their latest album, Kveikur, on June 18 through XL Recordings. We can't help but wonder if former member Kjartan Sveinsson regrets leaving the band and missing out on the chance to be Simpson-ized.
