Sigur Rós Front-man Jónsi Working with Nico Muhly on Solo Album
As if Jón Ržór Birgisson (aka Jónsi) wasn't already busy enough fronting Sigur Rós and embarking on another project with his boyfriend Alex Somers, the Icelander is now apparently set to start recording a "sort of solo record." According to producer Peter Katis (Interpol, the National), he's on deck to produce the upcoming effort, which is to also feature orchestral wunderkind Nico Muhly, who you may know from his work with Björk, Antony and the Johnsons and Grizzly Bear.

"It's going to be a largely acoustic guitar record but also with a lot of 'out there' string arrangements - strings, woodwinds, brass, and double bass, actually," Katis recently told the blog The Calcutta. And just because there is the potential for confusion between Jónsi's new solo record and his upcoming one with Somers, Riceboy Sleeps, Katis was very clear to point out the two are entirely separate projects. "It's not the Riceboy Sleeps thing," Katis explained. "That's a strictly ambient record that they made by themselves, and comes out pretty soon."

And while there is no release date yet for this Jónsi solo outing, Katis said he will start recording the record in the next few weeks.

As previously reported, the Riceboy Sleeps album is due out on July 21 via XL.
