Shudder to Think's Craig Wedren Announces New Solo Album, Gets Members of Bright Eyes, Sleater-Kinney, Ok Go to Guest

Post-hardcore outfit Shudder to Think may have got back together a couple of years ago for some reunion shows and a live album, but singer Craig Wedren has been more focused on his solo work as of late. Case in point, the performer/film scorer has put the finishing touches on his new album Wand, which will be released May 24 on Nerveland Recordings.

While Wedren's semi-operatic vocal stylings will no doubt steal the show, Wand also features a number of notable guests. Scheduled to appear are Conor Oberst, Sleater-Kinney's Janet Weiss, Azure Ray's Maria Taylor and OK Go's Damian Kulash.

The album's first single, the breezy "Are We," was released earlier this week (February 15) on iTunes and will be released on a seven-inch sometime in March. A brief trailer for the album, which showcases the single, can be seen below and it's a little weird. Snippets of fur-wearing nomads scour beaches in some scenes, while other moments find Wedren and company hanging from trees or mingling at pool parties.

The footage is apparently from a companion film also titled Wand. Director Tim Nackashi will helm the flick, which is said to star a number of actors from '90s MTV sketch show The State, as well as Wedren. This wouldn't mark the first time Wedren's collaborated with members of The State: the musician scored troupe member David Wain's 2009 film Role Models. A release date has not yet been set for the movie version of Wand.
