The Show Is The Rainbow

Wet Fist

BY Josiah HughesPublished Mar 18, 2009

Based out of Lincoln, NE, the Show is the Rainbow is the one-man project of Darren Keen, who was once in a band called 3 Day Meat Sale. Naturally, a man of such challenging monikers plays bizarre, left field noise pop that flips between basement R&B and indie rock, at times within the same song. As shown on his third album, Wet Fist, Keen is both a talented songwriter and a playful humorist, turning sassy segues like "Sperm & Egg" into the synth-funk confessional of "Mother and Son." Elsewhere, tracks like "Come Dry Your Flower" are disarming in their heart-felt approach. Ultimately, Wet Fist is an excellent release worth checking out, just be sure to avoid NSFW mishaps by including the band name when you Google it.
