Shotgun Jimmie

The Great Hall, Toronto ON March 22

Hailing from Sackville, NB, Shotgun Jimmie is a sight to see. Taking on all vocal, guitar and percussion work as a one-man band, his set at the Great Hall was definitely impressive. Undeterred by the line of dudes in the front row wearing his face on their shirts (they gave him his own at the end), Jimmie worked the crowd with his hilarious stage banter and fuzzy rock tunes. His songs about holding hands, subways and drinking tequila in the afternoon were just as charming as the man himself -- and most of them were ended with a "cha cha cha." There were a couple stuttered starts and wonky notes, but they were easily brushed off. To close his set, he abandoned all instruments in favour of holding the mic and singing a song about his time as a janitor in Toronto. Extremely bizarre, yes, but also totally hilarious and unforgettable.
