If you're hoping to spin a vinyl copy of Blackstar in memory of the late performer, however, make sure you don't by it online: Opportunistic record vultures have jacked up the price of the new LP to ridiculous levels.
On eBay.ca, you'll find the deluxe, clear vinyl version of the album going for as much as $1,700 CAD before shipping. Granted, the clear version of the LP was "limited," but just barely — there are 5,000 copies.
Sure, the most expensive copies of the record on eBay also come with limited lithograph prints, but the plain ol' clear vinyl LP without the prints will still cost you between $600 and $1,000 CAD.
Over on Discogs, things aren't much better. The clear vinyl version of the LP is currently listed in a price range from $573 to $1,032. That's a lot of dough for a record that certainly won't retain its high price tag after the hype dies down. It should be noted, however, that so far not a single copy of Blackstar has sold on Discogs, with the "Last Sold" listing being "Never" as of press time.
Further, if you opt to skip out on the clear vinyl version and buy the regular black vinyl online, you're still going to get screwed. The black copies of the album are currently being sold on Discogs for prices between $70 and $315 CAD. All of this for an album that's still in print and will likely be readily available at your local record store.
