The Shins Nab Columbia Distribution Deal, Return to Toronto on North American Tour

BY Josiah HughesPublished Aug 2, 2011

Aside from a YouTube-grade leak of an untitled new track, it's been a long time since we've heard any new material from Portland indie rock success story the Shins. Way back in 2008, we revealed that the group were ditching Sub Pop to launch their own label. Now more details have emerged about an upcoming new album.

According to a press relase, the Shins' fourth album is being prepared for release in 2012 and is being produced by Greg Kurstin, who has worked with everyone from Beck and the Flaming Lips to Lily Allen and Ke$ha.

When it's finally ready, the album will be released via James Mercer's Aural Apothecary imprint, which will be distributed by Columbia.

In addition to the new album news, the Shins will embark on a small North American tour that includes an appearance at Toronto's Phoenix Concert Theatre on September 22. All dates are available below.
