Shawn Mendes Shouts Out Toronto in "If I Can't Have You" Video

He'll perform the new song on 'Saturday Night Live' this weekend

Shawn Mendes will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live tomorrow night (May 4), but before he takes the stage, the Toronto pop phenom has unveiled a brand new single called "If I Can't Have You."

The track was written by Mendes, along with Scott Harris, Teddy Geiger and Nate Marceau, and it hears him making reference to his hometown — though the lyrics seem to imply he'd rather be elsewhere with the subject of the lovelorn song.

Mendes will perform the new song on SNL tomorrow night.

"I'm going through this phase right now where I'm testing out all the styles I can possibly be doing," Mendes said on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show. "Pop is what's in my blood — no pun intended. In the last six months I wrote about 45 songs and they're all over the place and different vibes. This is the one consistently every time I played for myself and for friends and family was giving people that smile."

The song arrives with an accompanying video, shot in artsy black-and-white. And, yes, it features (fake) views of the CN Tower.

Hear the song and watch the video for "If I Can't Have You" below.
