Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan is currently in hospital, and his wife has shared updates on his health as well as her own "terrifying fears of loss."

MacGowan revealed late last year that he had been diagnosed with encephalitis, a serious condition involving swelling of the brain.

UPDATE (11/23, 2:31 p.m. ET): The singer has been now been discharged from the hospital, his wife announced on the website formerly known as Twitter. "We are deeply and eternally grateful to all of the doctors and nurses and staff at St. Vincent's it's the best!"

MacGowan's wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, has since posted a number of images of the singer in hospital, the latest of which show him with a breathing apparatus. Judging by her photo updates, MacGowan was back at home in the spring, but appears to have been in hospital since at least July. NME reports that he was hospitalized in Dublin in June.

In an update on November 11, Clarke posted an Instagram photo of her and MacGowan kissing and wrote, "Sometimes when you love very deeply you will find yourself facing terrifying fears of loss that can feel so big and devastating that you don't know how you can survive them and you can't imagine life without this person that you love."

Yesterday, she posted a photo of MacGowan on X (formerly Twitter), offering "a massive thanks to everyone who has been messaging."
