Shad

"A Milli Vanilli" (video)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 29, 2012

Shad's recent Melancholy and the Infinite Shadness freebie mixtape offered up countless puns and samples referencing what it was like to grow up in the '80s and '90s. While the tape offered up nods to the Breeders and Prince, the opening cut "A Milli Vanilli" claimed influence from famously phony pop duo Milli Vanilli, and so does its newly released video clip.

As you can see down below, the video starts up with the intro of the German lip-synchers "Girl, You Know It's True" video before starting up into the old-school boom-bap cut. From there, Shad offers up lo-fi VHS shots of himself spitting on some playground equipment, with clips of The Wedge-era Sook-Yin Lee and new wavers Scritti Politti cut in for good measure.
