Sevens Nines and Tens

"I Come from Downtown"

Vancouver's Sevens Nine and Tens are switching things up for their next album release, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Slums. While the band had trafficked in numbers-crunching instrumental post-hardcore in the past, they're now ready to put their mics to use for more than in-between song banter. You can hear the gang getting vocal on the album's first preview, "I Come from Downtown."

As you'll hear below, the track still features a heady array of sounds, from atmospheric washes of six-string distortion, to Pat Metheny-meets-Pelican jazz-and-post-rock fusion, to crash cymbal-happy beats. Now, the band are also adding a plethora of multilayered, breathy vocals to further flood the senses.

A due date has yet to be affixed to Set the Controls for the Heart of the Slums, but you can hear its first single down below.
