Published Jan 21, 2015Randy Rhoads fans ready to hop aboard a different kind of "Crazy Train" can now check out a new interpretation of the Ozzy Osbourne song, as prepped by System of a Down singer Serj Tankian and fretboard adventurist Tom Morello.
The cover kicks off with Tankian putting a twist on Ozzy's iconic "aye aye aye" before Morello cranks off the tune's instantly recognizable intro. Drummer Vinny Appice and bassist Rudy Sarzo, who had played with Rhoads in Ozzy's band and in Quiet Riot, supply a slightly heavier rhythmic approach than they did in the '80s. Morello doesn't dare recreate Rhoads scorching solo, but instead goes off the rails with a speedy, effects-soaked showcase of his own.
As previously reported, the track comes as part of the Immortal Randy Rhoads - The Ultimate Tribute compilation, which lands March 3 through UDR Music. The set also features guest work from Kiss's Bruce Kulick, Dweezil Zappa and more.
