Serj Tankian Returns with Imperfect Harmonies, Books Canada-Friendly North American Tour

With System of a Down still on hiatus, fans continue to look to singer Serj Tankian for their fix of eclectic, politicized hard rock. Since his first solo album in 2007, the Armenian renaissance man has been busy with a plethora of projects, including work on a musical, a classical jazz symphony and poetry. Now, he's gearing up to release his second solo album.

The record is called Imperfect Harmonies and reportedly demonstrates the diversity of Tankian's influences. Speaking with Billboard last month, Tankian explained how an orchestra influenced the record's sound.

"On a lot of rock records, you hear the orchestra in back; it's kind of buried so that the guitars and drums can dominate the frequency," he said. "I didn't want to do that here. I wanted it to be a fair balance, so my guitars are the orchestra, in this case. I didn't use a lot of guitars on this record, but I made the orchestra rock. I made them go wild."

Imperfect Harmonies will be released on September 21 via Tankian's Serjical Strike imprint. A deluxe version of the album, including a bonus disc, canvas print and two paint brushes, can be pre-ordered here. Three album tracks can be streamed via the widget below.

In addition to the new record, Tankian will embark on a North American tour this fall. The run of shows kicks off in Calgary on September 12, and also includes dates in Edmonton, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
