Sean Ward

I Was Made For This

BY Thomas QuinlanPublished Jul 18, 2007

Sharp-dressed comic book creator Sean Ward follows his self-titled, limited edition EP of last year with this three-song CD single. Vocally, he sounds like Tom Green but with more emphasis on wit than jokes, and he’s all about that braggadocio party rap. Sean’s self-produced beats are funky, up-tempo dance floor fodder. Opening track "I Was Made For This” is a rock-tinged testament to Ward’s microphone abilities. DJ Human Kebab opens the song on an old school vibe, cutting within the chorus and accompanying a heavy metal guitar lick. Sean switches gears from guitars and drums to bass and horns for "I Just Wanna Dance,” a funky ode to the dance floor, with more Human Kebab scratches, a soulful hook courtesy of Tye Clarke and a damn fine horn sample. Rounding out the CD is "The Sean Ward Thang,” a big funk jam that could very well be a live band session, including some uplifting keyboard playing, a frantic DJ solo (HK once again) and also a vocal solo for hook singer Tye Clarke. The CD also includes the instrumental and a cappella versions for the title track. It’s a fun, groovy set of songs but I need something a little longer for the entertainment at my party.
