Published Oct 03, 2011Getting signed to Slumberland Records is a dream come true for practically any young indie pop band. California up-and-comers Sea Lions can count themselves as members of that exclusive club, as they are gearing up to release their album Everything You Always Wanted to Know About the Sea Lions but Were Afraid to Ask through the storied label on November 22.
A press release uses adjectives like "shimmering" and "virtuosic," and describes the album like this: "While the group does a wonderful job dabbling in minor keys and retro sounds, standout track 'As Times Change' reveals a confident band that knows how to mine their record collections (particularly their 13th Floor Elevators and Love LPs) and turn all of those sounds into something entirely their own."
We currently don't have a single to listen to, and there's no word as to whether any of the band's previously released tracks will reoccur here. By the sound of things, though, fans of slacker pop will find a lot to enjoy on Everything You Always Wanted to Know About the Sea Lions but Were Afraid to Ask, since "it's the sound of youth everywhere: bored, underemployed and wishing your life was something else. If there is any justice in this world, it will take them far."
While we wait for the album's release, feast your eyes on the kinda awkward cover art above, which answers many questions you might have had about whether this would be in stereo or not.
