Scuba

Triangulation (Interpretations)

Scuba (aka Paul Rose) is a busy man; he's a leading dub-step producer, owner of Hotflush Recordings (which has an impressive roster of major dubstep and electronic acts, including Boxcutter, Mount Kimbie and Joy Orbison) and promoter of the successful SUB:STANCE night at Berlin's famous Berghain nightclub. Now, he releases Triangulation (Interpretations), featuring remixes of seven of Triangulation's 12 tracks, released earlier this year. Scuba usually operates in the nexus between dubstep and techno, but the remixes push into other areas, including jungle, house and even a hint of classic trip-hop on Scuba's re-edit of "Before": "Before (After)." The Falty DL remix of "On Deck" is a fusion of house and drum & bass, while Canada's Deadbeat transforms "Tracers" into a powerful techno banger. A highlight is Joe's stilted, off-kilter remix of "So You Think You're Special," with its jazzy groove underpinning stuttering percussion and jangly piano. Triangulation (Interpretations) is an impressive re-imagining of the original release.
