Published Jun 04, 2010Though they haven't crossed our paths that much as of yet, New Jersey indie rock quintet Steel Train have existed for over a decade. We have a feeling we will be getting acquainted with their tunes soon enough, however, as the band have enlisted some A-list female musicians to cover all the tracks on their most recent LP.
The upcoming album is self-titled, and will be the third full-length to come from Steel Train. To coincide with its release though, the band have asked their favourite females to perform cover versions or remix songs. That resulted in Terrible Thrills Vol. 1, a companion LP featuring contributions from Tegan and Sara, Scarlett Johansson, Holly Miranda, Deradoorian, Amanda Palmer and even Arrested Development's Alia Shawkat.
"I couldn't be happier with how the new Steel Train album turned out. But when I was writing these new songs, I had pictured a female taking the lead. With Terrible Thrills, my wish came true," said front-man Jack Antanoff. "What makes this album so special to us is that each of these amazing artists took our songs and made it into something totally new and special."
Steel Train will be released via the band's Terrible Thrills label on June 29. The Terrible Thrills Vol. 1 companion album will ship with pre-orders and a deluxe version of the album. More information will be available via the band's website.
