Over the years, Hollywood A-lister Scarlett Johansson has crossed over into music a few times, and now she has announced her latest endeavour: a supergroup featuring Este Haim (of HAIM), Holly Miranda, Kendra Morris and Julia Haltigan. They're called the Singles, and they've unveiled the single "Candy" for Dave Sitek's Federal Prism.
A press release calls the Singles a "Go-Go's-style star-studded girl band." Johansson said in a statement, "I would say it's super-pop...the idea was to write super-pop dance music written and performed by girls...I love Grimes. And I love the Bangles. And I love the Go-Go's. I wanted it to be like those bands: ultra pop but also a little ironic, a little in on the joke."
Their debut single was produced by TV on the Radio's Sitek at his Federal Prism Studios. He also designed the artwork (above). Below, listen to "Candy" [via Rolling Stone], which is a boppy synth-pop tune that's jam-packed with sugary harmonies and junk food-referring lyrics.
"Candy" is available to order from Federal Prism's pop-up shop on PledgeMusic. The 12-inch comes on coloured vinyl with remixes on the B-side.
A press release advises listeners to "stay tuned for more" from the Singles.
