Saviours

Into Abaddon

It’s easy to get jaded on trends, especially when said trend has been given the moniker of "hipster metal.” Yuck. But Saviours have the chops to rock their way out of that tight space, coming across like a more energetic High on Fire, with all the grime and gunk of that band whipped up with a healthy dosage of NWOBHM charm. The swirling beats of the title track evoke the best of HOF’s repetitive stoner/rock mantras, while "Narcotic Sea” goes fast, hard and simple, still heading to the graveyard at midnight but skipping the crazy train and hopping on the punk rock express to get there. There’s not much in the way of songs to latch on to, and I’ll be impressed if these guys are still at it in four years, but there are some mighty riffs here and an overall vibe that is pretty hard to deny.
