Three years ago, we reported that notorious British comic actor Sasha Baron Cohen, best known for larger than life characters like Ali G, Bruno and Borat, would take on the role of Queen's Freddie Mercury in an upcoming biopic. Now, however, he's backed out of the film.
According to Deadline, who also shared the hilarious image you see above, Cohen disagreed with producers about the direction they wanted the film to go.
Producers were hoping to keep the film PG-rated, while Cohen was more interested in a gritty, R-rated tell-all film. Citing "creative differences," he's left the project, and with him, so has Les Miserables director Tom Hooper.
No word yet on who could possibly replace Sasha Baron Cohen for the lead role. The film is being produced by Graham King, Tim Headington, Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Queen Films.
