Sarah MacDougall Announces New 'Grand Canyon' LP

BY Alex HudsonPublished Dec 10, 2014

We knew that Canadian songwriter Sarah MacDougall had an album on the way, since she recently shared a single featuring Thus Owls' Erika Angell. Now, the Swedish-born Whitehorse resident has formally announced her record. Grand Canyon will be out on February 24.

The album was produced by Caleb Stull (of Field Study). It's made up of eight songs, one of which MacDougall sung in her native Swedish. This is the follow-up to 2011's The Greatest Ones Alive.

"The themes on the record are inspired by my own experiences, by people around me and the landscapes I am surrounded by," she said in a statement about the new album. "I worked part time in a residential home for youth at risk and their stories permeate this record as well. I get inspired by how much it takes to live an inspired life despite all the chaos and struggles around us. Sometimes it takes realizing how small we all are to feel like you are big. Living around mountains and under dark starry skies can really put things in perspective. You realize what's worth focusing on in this short life. We're gonna be gone tomorrow. That is kind of what this album is about. And it's also about dancing, despite of everything."

MacDougall is currently selling copies of the album through a PledgeMusic campaign, with 10 percent of the money raised going to the Victoria Faulkner Women's Centre. For a taste of what purchasers will be buying, revisit "I Want to See the Light (Lost from Our Eyes)" at the bottom of the page.
