Songwriter Sarah Harmer has frequently battled to protect the environment in Ontario, and she will continue her campaigning this fall by spearheading a star-studded show to raise awareness about Enbridge's Line 9 pipeline plan.

The so-called "Rock the Line" concert will take place on October 6 at Toronto's Mel Lastman Square. Getting underway at 2 p.m. local time, the bill will feature Harmer, Gord Downie with the Sadies, Hayden and Minotaurs. It's presented by Environmental Defence and hosted by Vish Khanna (who is also an Exclaim! contributor).

A press release explains: "Line 9 is a 38-year-old pipeline that runs across Southern Ontario. Enbridge wants to reverse the flow, increase capacity and pump a more dangerous substance (chemically diluted heavy tar sands oil) at high pressure through the line, which was not designed for this purpose."

Harmer said in a statement, "The Line 9 proposal puts communities all across Southern Ontario at risk of a tar sands oil spill. It also risks the dangerous release of carcinogenic chemicals into our air. The more I learn about the likelihood of pipeline ruptures with the Line 9  plan, the more convinced I am this plan needs to be rejected."

The show is free, and food carts and children's activities will be available.
