CanRock darlings Sam Roberts Band have returned with a brand new single titled "Ascension," their first release in four years.
Following up their 2016 LP, TerraForm, the band have shared a "call to action" through the track, hoping to motivate listeners to "climb above the chaos" of these uncertain times.
Produced by Juno-nominated Gus van Go, the song finds the band taking on an unfamiliar genre.
"I wanted to approach this song with a more 'punk' approach than is usually used for Sam Robert Band's recordings," the producer said of his work on the track. "It felt right to me that the song should have a certain rawness and energy reminiscent of some of those British post-punk bands of the late '70s and early '80s, like Buzzcocks and Gang of Four."
"Ascension" marks the band's first entry under their own label, Secret Weapon.
Later this summer, Sam Roberts Band will perform at RBC Ottawa Bluesfest's drive-in concert series, #CanadaPerforms in Gatineau, QC.
