On the drive back to Toronto from performing at River & Sky Festival in Northern Ontario, Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs were involved in an accident caused by a reckless driver and poor weather. While no band members were hurt, the Toronto-based six-piece are looking to crowdfund cash for a new vehicle ahead of more tour commitments.
The band have launched a GoFundMe campaign with the goal of raising $15,000 for a new van ahead of a tour with Frank Turner and Bad Cop/Bad Cop this September, in addition to local live dates to round out the summer. Due to the other driver fleeing the scene, the band are on the hook for the entire cost of the repair.
As of press time, the campaign has raised $4,410. You can contribute to the cause here. Dine Alone Records have also offered up 10 test pressings of the band's self-titled LP for sale, with all proceeds set to go to the band's campaign. You can find those over here.
The accident damage can be seen in the photo above. As the group recalled in their campaign description, "a car swerved in front of us cutting the van off while simultaneously coming to a sudden stop. We were forced to swerve into the guard rail to avoid hitting the car and the van began sliding due to the rain and poor road conditions. We struck the railing and then slid back into traffic and clipped another vehicle. Our front left tire is underneath the van right now."
Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs will join Turner on the North American leg of his "Be More Kind World Tour" from September 11 until October 6, making stops in Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, London, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Kingston before a stretch in the United States.
The band will also appear at Riverfest Elora on August 18.
