Sam Cash & the Romantic Dogs Plot Toronto Residency, Tap Ian Blurton for New LP

BY Alex HudsonPublished Feb 19, 2015

In 2014, Sam Cash & the Romantic Dogs kept busy by promoting their 2013 album Stand Together, Fall Together. Now, the Toronto roots-rock outfit are setting their sights on the future by booking a residency at the Cameron House prior to recording their new album.

The residency will take place every Thursday in March. There will be special guest openers for each gig. See the schedule below, and note that the Cash Brothers (performing March 19) feature Sam's father and uncle, while Neil Quin (performing March 12) is in Zeus. All shows are pay-what-you-can admission.

After that, a recording session for the new album will take place in April with Ian Blurton (of Change of Heart and C'mon) handling production. Blurton apparently said that "the band needs to be hot" when entering the studio, so Cash and company will play lots of new material and new arrangements during the residency.

Speaking of working with Blurton, Cash said in a statement, "I really fell in love with the production work on the Weakerthans' records, and on my favourite Skydiggers record Bittersweet Harmony, and when I found out they were all done by the same guy I essentially hunted Ian down and begged him to work with us. What will be great about doing pre-production and a residency in the same month is we can spend the week re-arranging the songs, and then we get to try them out live every Thursday"

When the as-yet-untitled record does arrive, it will be through Cameron House Records.
