Sam Cash

Teenage Hunger

BY Randi BeersPublished Nov 4, 2011

Toronto, ON singer-songwriter Sam Cash's first release, Teenage Hunger, is selling exactly what it's purporting to: the album is chock-full of torch songs and laments about relationships gone wrong. Cash's songwriting style and delivery are highly reminiscent of another Toronto, ON-based troubadour: Jason Collett. The sweetly sung last track, "Til The Night's Put To Bed," is a highlight, as is the spare "Little Voices," which evokes Jeff Buckley. Teenage Hunger's production is fairly impressive, as is its roster of Toronto musicians. Dave Clark (who's worked with the Rheostatics and Gord Downie) produced and Neil Quin (Zeus), Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas), Hayden and Serena Ryder all contributed. Teenage Hunger is a fine first album by a fine young musician.
