Salt The Wound

Carnal Repercussions

BY Dave SynyardPublished Feb 19, 2008

Cleveland, OH’s Salt The Wound have done something many bands still can’t: made a pretty damn close to perfect debut release. Carnal Repercussions seems lyrically themed around past relationships but this album serves as a devastating death metal response from five dudes for those associations. Growling that makes the San Andreas Fault shake is what Matthew Tanner is all about, adding sub-crawls to remind you why death metal is so titled, but he’s not one-dimensional, with an equally impressive scream. With the assistance of relentless guitarists Vince Stropki and Jake Scott performing everything you could want, the heavy tones help tie things up in a blood-soaked package. The ride keeps going from there with drummer Rob Walters supporting with blast beats, double kick and rolls keeping this machine well oiled. Sure ,it sounds easy to make this kind of music when it’s put so simply but not many have the balls to put salt in their wounds.
