Published Dec 10, 2014S. Carey has been making the most of Bon Iver's hiatus, since Justin Vernon's buddy released a solo album called Range of Light back in the spring. Now, he already has a new EP lined up. Supermoon is due out on Jagjaguwar on February 17.
The EP doesn't actually include any brand new material. Rather, it's made up of reworked material from Carey's prior releases, plus a cover of Radiohead's The Bends cut "Bullet Proof…I Wish I Was." It was engineered, mixed and mastered by Zach Hanson.
The EP was recorded over a single weekend during the super moon this August. The new renditions are apparently more stripped down than the original versions, with acoustic parts overlaid with vocals and subtle strings (courtesy of Mike Noyce, who played viola).
"The longer you spend with a song, the more you can see it in its pure form," Carey said in a statement.
Below, hear the new version of the Range of Light track "Neverending Fountain," which is presented as a hushed piano ballad.
To go along with the intimate EP, Carey will be hitting the road for a living room tour. See the schedule below. He hasn't confirmed exactly where each house show will be held. See the schedule below, and note that it includes Canadian shows in Victoria and Vancouver. Tickets will soon be on sale here.
