RZA to Release Soul Compilation

BY Josiah HughesPublished Feb 15, 2013

While Wu-Tang Clan mastermind RZA has been busying himself in the film world, from his kung-fu flick The Man with the Iron Fists to Ol' Dirty Bastard and Genghis Khan biopics, he hasn't entirely left the music business. With production work slated for Ghostface Killah's next LP, he's also got a soul compilation on the docket.

The new release is called Shaolin Soul Selection Vol 1, and will feature 24 tracks of soulful crate digging from the legendary hip-hop figure. The release is subtitled "Legendary soul from the vaults of Stax Records that inspired the classic sound of the Wu-Tang Clan." Pretty self-explanatory, no?

The album includes tracks from the Emotions, David Porter, Isaac Hayes, the Soul Children, the Dramatics, Booker T. and the M.G.'s, the Mad Lads, Albert King, Jonnie Taylor, 24-Carat Black and the Sweet Inspirations. A 10-minute taste of the compilation can be streamed below.

Shaolin Soul Selection Vol 1 will be released on March 19 via RZA's own Soul Temple Records. It'll be available as a double CD, triple vinyl set or digital download.
