After releasing scores for both The Revenant and Nagasaki: Memories of My Son last year, Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto is counting down the days towards delivering a new album in 2017.
A press release states that the artist will release the album through Milan Records. A countdown has appeared on Sakamoto's official website that points to a March 29 release date in Japan and April 28 around the world. The message "SN/M比50%" is also included.
The press release itself comes with the subject line "Ryuichi Sakamoto - New Album - 20170428," making that release date of April 28, 2017, seem very likely indeed. The PR also promises the record to arrive on CD, double LP and digitally.
UPDATE (1/17, 9:30 p.m.): A later press release from Milan confirmed that the album would be arriving on April 28, though provided no other details.
Sakamoto returned to music in 2015 following treatment for throat cancer. He then worked on music for The Revenant alongside Alva Noto and the National's Bryce Dessner, and reissued his score for Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence. He also released the score to Nagasaki: Memories of My Son in 2016, as well as Plankton and the Music for Film comp.
