Ryan Adams

"Welcome to New York" (Taylor Swift cover) (live on 'Kimmel')

Ryan Adams' meme-worthy full-album cover of Taylor Swift's 1989 came out last month, and with the physical versions still on the way, the songwriter swung by Jimmy Kimmel Live last night (October 19) to perform his rendition of "Welcome to New York."

His choice of cover was appropriate, given that Kimmel is being filmed in Brooklyn this week rather than Los Angeles. Adams' rendition was faithful to the version that appears on his 1989 album — although not faithful to Swift's banging, pop-friendly original — as he and his band kicked up an overdriven heartland rock racket.

Watch the performance below. The CD version of Adams' 1989 will be out on October 30 through Pax-Am, while the vinyl will follow on December 18.
