Blue Roses marks Runaway June's first full-length album. Their vocal harmonies are silky and smooth on the title track and on "Fast As You," which adds a blues-rock dimension to the album. Another barroom singalong is "I Know the Way," with catchy country-pop music production and a clever and pointed lyrical hook, while the traditional country "We Were Rich" sends a message about values with guitar-picking resembling Miranda Lambert's "Oklahoma Sky."
The emotional "Got Me Where I Want You" has a gentle temperament, like Carly Pearce's hit "Every Little Thing," while the detailed and descriptive upbeat country pop relationship story "Trouble With This Town" is lyrically similar to Maddie and Tae's "Tourist In This Town." The catchy "Good, Bad and Ugly" seems like a medley of country-pop hits "Best Shot" by Jimmie Allen and "Meant to Be" by Bebe Rexha featuring Florida Georgia Line.
Although Blue Roses is an album that fits the mould maybe a little too much, the trio's conformity to some of today's biggest country artists does not dampen their light. In Blue Roses, Runaway June's voice can be heard cutting through all the noise.
