Ruiner’s frantic desperation has never sounded better than on I Heard These Dudes Are Assholes. A re-mastered compilation of their previous EPs, splits and demos, the 14-track affair sounds so much crisper and raucous than the original releases that they almost come across as entirely new material. With the passion of Black Flag, pseudo-intricate riffing of Hot Water Music and antagonistic delivery of Trash Talk, I Heard may only feature previously released music but when updated by the keen ears of producer Nick Zampiello (Converge, Hope Conspiracy), there’s no need for bonus tracks. There’s enough fresh life here to make I Heard These Dudes Are Assholes seem entirely recent.
