Royal Canoe Have Hidden a Copy of Their New Album in Winnipeg

Join the treasure hunt if you want to be the first to hear the record

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Aug 22, 2018

Royal Canoe haven't released an album since 2016's Something Got Lost between Here and the Orbit, but the band have completed work on their next LP and are giving a few lucky fans the chance to hear it months in advance.

They've hidden a boombox containing the only copy of the upcoming album somewhere in Winnipeg and will be giving eager fans a series of clues. Once the successful individual or team solves the puzzle, they'll receive a shovel and GPS coordinates for the buried treasure.

The first clues will be unveiled on August 25 at 11 a.m. local time. Sign up for the hunt here.

The new album won't be arriving until 2019, and while the winners will get to keep a copy, the first 200 treasure hunters to register will be invited to a listening party on August 29 at the Art Gallery Rooftop.

Check out the band's instructions and a teaser video for the challenge below.

WINNIPEG! We've buried a boombox with the only copy of our upcoming album somewhere in the city. We created a treasure hunt at www.royalcanoe.com/hunt that will require people to team up, get on their bikes/feet/buses and trek around the city solving a series of clues. The first team to solve the final puzzle will be lead to a shovel with GPS coordinates for the location of the buried album. The record isn't coming out until 2019 so if you and your team win, you'll be the only people to have a copy for months. There will be other prizes for the top 5 teams. Hunt clues unleashed Aug 25th at 11 am. Make an account at royalcanoe.com/hunt and register your team in the coming days by posting a picture to Instagram with the hashtag #RCtheHunt with your team members tagged in it. We'll be having a listening party on the Art Gallery Rooftop on Aug 29th for the first 200 people who sign up for the hunt ($5 to cover costs.)
