Rose Cousins

'We Have Made a Spark' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Feb 14, 2012

Kickstarter certainly came through for Halifax songwriter Rose Cousins. She held a fundraiser for the recording of her upcoming album, We Have Made a Spark, and topped her $20,000 goal by more than five grand. And now funders and new fans alike can hear the entire record here at Exclaim.ca.

The 11-song collection is streaming below. Some of the material was written in a small cabin without electricity on an island in New Hampshire, with the results captured in Boston with producer Zachariah Hickman.

In regards to the lyrical content, Cousins previously had this to say in a statement: "We develop patterns that keep us from moving forward. It takes a deep breath and a bucket of courage to face the uncomfortable, painful things we work so hard to avoid. Reward comes from recognizing the obstacle exists and pushing through fear."

Listen below and, if you like what you hear, buy a copy on CD when it's released on February 28 through Outside Music. Order We Have Made a Spark here.

In support of the record, Cousins has also rolled out a North American tour, whose dates you can see below. On top of that, she will release a companion film called If I Should Fall Behind, which is about the Boston community where the album was recorded.
