The Roots To Retire From Touring For Jimmy Fallon?

BY Josiah HughesPublished Nov 18, 2008

According to various reports, the Roots may be taking an extended break from touring to become Jimmy Fallon’s backing band when the comedian replaces Conan O’Brien on NBC’s Late Night program early next year. Reports say there was a YouTube video of Roots drummer ?uestlove announcing the decision earlier yesterday that was quickly removed, setting blogs on fire with the announcement.

Whether or not the rumour is true is yet to be seen but the addition of the band would add an automatic audience to the show, which is already being written off by people turned off by Jimmy Fallon’s comedic style. The concept isn't that bizarre, however, since the Roots already invaded the late night comedy scene earlier this year as Stephen Colbert’s house band for his Philadelphia special, as well as at Comedy Central’s Night of Too Many Stars.
