The Roots Forced to Clear 'Fallon' Song Choices with NBC Execs Following Bachmann Controversy

Last month, the Roots turned heads when they played Fishbone's "Lyin' Ass Bitch" as the walk-out music for Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann when she appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The tongue-in-cheek gesture was one of many hidden, subversive song choices that the group have used in their musical role on the program.

After a media shitstorm that had Bachmann accusing the band of sexism and forced drummer Questlove into apologizing, the Roots' reign of hilarity on late-night television is likely over, as NBC executives will now be screening the group's song choices for celebrity appearance.

As Rolling Stone [via New York Post] reports, three NBC execs will be needed to clear each song on the show, and Questlove has been forbidden from making any mention of the incident on his Twitter account.

"It was a real bummer," Fallon told Rolling Stone. "We don't want to censor anyone, but... I don't know. Maybe Questlove is a Romney guy."
