The Roots Dropping 'Undun' In December

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Oct 7, 2011

Back in July, long-running Philly-based conscious hip-hop outfit the Roots announced they'd hit the studio to record their 13th album, Undun. At the time, the group guessed the set would hit our ears either late this year or early in 2012. It looks like it's the former, as the band just confirmed it'll be dropping December 6.

A post on the Roots' Facebook page today (October 7) formally announced the release, explaining "UNDUN, our first ever concept album, will be released Tue December 6th, 2011 via Def Jam. Mark your calendars folks and stay tuned for more info, music, artwork, and more."

While it was previously reported that the disc would be conceptual, and that it'll included "orchestral chamber music, with harder beats in it,"we're still up in the air as to what the album's all about. You can, however, get a brief taste of what's to come via the new song playing in the studio vid below.

While drummer Questlove's twitter account has been a haven for info in the past, including those studio pics he uploaded in the summer, he hasn't made any announcements of his own today. He has, however, been tweeting up a storm about the MLB postseason playoffs.
