The Roots

"When the People Cheer"

As previously reported, hip-hop legends/Tonight Show band the Roots are nearing completion on their 11th studio album …And Then You Shoot Your Cousin. To prove it's still coming, they've shared the release's first single.

"When the People Cheer" utilizes a simple piano refrain and plenty of busy percussion to weave an excellent hip-hop pastiche. On top, the band's co-founder Black Thought raps about sex, morality and sex addiction.

In a recent interview with XXL, he said, "We create quite a few different characters in this record.... It's satire, but in that satire it's an analysis of some of the stereotypes perpetuated in not only the hip-hop community, but in the community."
