Romi Mayes

Achin' in Yer Bones

BY Amanda AshPublished Mar 4, 2009

If you heard Romi Mayes's last record, Sweet Somethin' Steady, you're probably just itching to get your paws on her latest release, Achin In Yer Bones. The good news is that this album is just as depressing, just as feisty and just as whiskey-soaked as her previous work. Mayes lays her deepest feelings and dreams flat-out on every song — there are no games, no shame. The title track rolls out a carpet made of crushed emotions, leading you down a path that doesn't always go as expected. "Tire Marks" captures Mayes's signature spunk and "I'll do what I wanna" attitude. Then there's "I Won't Cry," which, with all of its acoustic beauty and heartfelt melodies, just makes you want to cry. Now, you must be wondering what the bad news is, right? Well, actually, there is no bad news. Simply put, Mayes is a Canadian country music icon whose music will keep you company long after the bar closes.
