Role Mach

'Holy Shades of Night' EP

When horn-filled Vancouver ensemble Role Mach recently announced their Travels in the Interior Districts EP, frontman Patrick Geraghty hinted that another EP would be on the way soon. Sure enough, the five-song Holy Shades of Night is available now.

The five songs all fit onto a single 7-inch, meaning that the track lengths are significantly shorter than the prior EP. The title cut and "Black Manhattan" are upbeat garage rock numbers, while the rest of the material is more boldly experimental. Closing tune "No One Stayed to Watch Me Leave" finds Geraghty adopting an unsettling delivery that's part Tom Waits, part demonic ghoul.

Both this 7-inch and the Travels in the Interior Districts cassette are due out on March 28. Both are available now as pay-what-you-want downloads.
