German electronic experimenter Hans-Joachim Roedelius is turning 80 this fall, and to celebrate the occasion, the Krautrock vet is being treated to a couple of archival releases from Bureau B. These will be out on October 24, just two days before his birthday.
One of these releases is Tape Archive 1973-1978. This consists of recordings that Roedelius made while Cluster and Harmonia were both active. Using an organ, synth, echo effect and tape machine, Roedelius would experiment with the tape running and capture ideas for later listening. Described as an "audio sketchbook," this is the first time the tapes have been digitized and released. It will be available in a run of 500 box sets, which contain three LPs, three CDs and a booklet.
The other release is a compilation simply called Kollektion 02. It was compiled by the musician's occasional collaborator Lloyd Cole, who scoured through Roedelius' solo archives to find his favourite synth and organ compositions.
