Rockie Fresh

'The Birthday Tape' (mixtape)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Apr 29, 2013

Chicago rhymer Rockie Fresh is in the midst of a crazy busy 2013, with the MMG rapper having just unveiled his second mixtape of the year, The Birthday Tape. Nitpickers may note that the freelease didn't drop on Fresh's actual date of birth (April 16), but two tapes in four months is still pretty impressive.

As expected, the seven-song follow-up to Electric Highway features the Rick Ross/Lunice collab "Panera Bread" and "Rollin'" with Gunplay. We just jumped into the set, but opener "Top of the World" has Fresh staking his claim to the rap throne ("competition getting beat like the egg in the whip") atop staccato string swipes and wily prog-rock synth oscillations.
