Rockers Aid Doctors

CHARITY

BY Jason SchneiderPublished Feb 1, 2006

Doctors Without Borders has received the world's highest honours for courageous work, but a new compilation brings the cause to music fans. Not Alone is the brainchild of Kitchener, ON record store owner Mark Logan, who runs independent labels Jnana and Busted Flat. The planned two-disc set exploded into five with the help of co-curator David Late Tibet (Current 93). Artists who handed over an exclusive track include Antony (minus the Johnsons), Devendra Banhart, the late Allen Ginsberg, Luke Doucet, Shannon Lyon and NQ Arbuckle. "I chose DWB because they operate in a politically non-partisan manner," Logan says. "I'm hoping it might be a way to generate a more substantial contribution to [DWB] and make a real difference." The set sells for $25, plus postage, with all proceeds going to DWB. For a complete track listing and to order copies, visit www.jnanarecords.com.
