At this point in his career, Jack White likely has plenty more music left in him. Still, he's also amassed a deep discography thus far. White's body of work will be celebrated on a new tribute album.
There's a twist, sort of — rather than have contemporary artists make awkward, modern-sounding versions of his jams, the album will feature performances from rock and soul icons like Wanda Jackson, Gary U.S. Bonds, Sonny Burgess, Big Jay McNeely, Johnny Powers, Joe Clay, Rosie Flores, Los Straightjackets, Bobby Vee and the Denver Broncos U.K., among others.
"Jack is such a talented songwriter, and a lot of his songs are done in a much different style than my own," Wanda Jackson, who worked with White previously in 2011, told Rolling Stone. "But when I heard 'Cold, Cold Night' for the first time I knew it was a song that I wanted to record some day. When the opportunity came around to pay tribute to Jack on this album I thought it was the perfect opportunity to lay it down in the studio…. I'm very pleased with how it turned out and I hope Jack approves of the job we did."
