Robbie Robertson Recruits Trent Reznor, Tom Morello, Eric Clapton for New Solo Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jan 4, 2011

Robbie Robertson has been lying low in recent years, as the former songwriter from the Band hasn't put out an album since 1998's Contract from the Underworld of Redboy. That will change on March 29, as the Canadian music legend will release the star-studded How to Become Clairvoyant via 429 Records.

Among the high-profile contributors who will appear on the album are Tom Morello, Robert Randolph, Trent Reznor and Steve Winwood. Eric Clapton also guests, having co-written three of the album's 12 songs.

According to a press release, the LP's lyrics delve into Robertson's rock'n'roll legacy. "This Is Where I Get Off" is the guitarist's first-ever song about leaving the Band, while "Straight Down the Line" deals with rock's early reputation as being the devil's music. "He Don't Live Here No More" tackles addiction, and a press release says that it "features Clapton on harmony vocal and electric and slide guitars alongside Robertson's soulful gut string guitar solo."

See the tracklist below, and take a listen to the sweetly sighing "When the Night Was Young" over at the 429 Records' website.

Note that the album will come out in the U.S. on April 5, one week later than in Canada.
